King of Dragon Pass App Reviews

Way too convoluted

Its way too convoluted an way to easy to make fatal choices. A save system liken the PC version would be amazing. Original game.

Unique

Its the only word to describe this fantasy sim of legalistic barbarians. To help understand it read the excellent manual and also Google for the "Lets Play Archive" entry for it which breaks down the mechanics and internal logic of the setting. One of the best ways to kill time on iOS and will probably be a permanent resident on my device. Great music too.

One of the few "real" games on the app store

There are only a few games with enough depth and charm in the app store to hold my attention for hours: Sword of Fargoal, Dungeon Raid, Mega Mall Story, and now King of Dragon Pass. This is a serious, brilliant port of a gaming gem Id never heard of until now. If youre a fan of those old-school PC strategy/roleplaying games like Darklands or Romance of the Three Kingdoms, pick this up and give it a chance. Its rare these days to find a game that can genuinely surprise you.

very niche - try the PC demo first

Do you like fantasy RPGs and strategy games, but wish that they played more like a spreadsheet? Then this is the game for you! Try the demo (of the original late 90s computer version) first!

Best game on the App Store

Easily the best game on the App Store. Would still be worth buying at twice the price.

Excellent and addictive

This is not your typical game on iTunes. This game requires intelligence and attention to detail. It can be replayed over and again without repeating itself. All original artwork and music. Loved this game on pc years ago, a perfect transition to the iPhone!

Worth Every Penny

Thought it looked a little weird at first. Thought Id give it a shot anyways... I didnt sleep the first night at all. So much fun! And the replay value is through the roof. Glad I picked up this gem.

Legendary!!

Ive never written a review before, let alone for a game, but this is by far the most entertaining and imaginative game that I have played in a LONG time - and I say this about a game with no animations. Rather than just playing a game, I feel like Im guiding the plot to a novel, and the randomness involved keeps every decision full of suspense! For the price of two pints of beer, you cant go wrong.

Great find!

Pretty happy about this purchase. A game with more depth and heart than you can shake a stick at. I fully recommend this to mature gamers who like challenges that incite intense pondering. Not the best choice if you want flashy graphics and twitchy gameplay. (Like there arent enough of those already). The UI works perfectly with the touch screen as well. Buy it, dive in and start leading a clan of your own.

Wow.... Wow

I have never spent more than 1 dollar on an app but man am I glad I did. This game is worth every dollar and more! It took me 8 hours to look away from it to write this review! If your an rpg/strategy fan you will absolutely love this game.

Just buy it!

If you want an in depth game with great storytelling and strategy, this is for you. I put over 24 hours into this game, much more then any other iPhone game. Very worth it. Steep learning curve though. Check the guides.

Engrossing, unforgettable, and updated yet again

King of Dragon Pass is quite simply a masterpiece. The developers have fine tuned and improved it since its original release in 1999, and trust me, it shows. It transcends genres and surpasses expectations, if you enjoy deep strategy and role playing experiences, you really cannot go wrong with King of Dragon Pass - Lost In Blue

I was skeptical, now I love it

They were right: best parts Civilization meets Choose Your Own Adventure. What they didnt tell you is that this is a great story that evolves with you. There is a "Saga" that is recording every choice you make, that reads like an epic tale. Your choices persist, creating a unique set of circumstances that haunt you. Members of your clan age, take on titles, marry, bicker, kill, and do die of old age. It can be emotional when one you have been favouring dies. The music and art do well to immerse you into this world. The thought behind the mythology is staggering and feels authentic. If youve read any Joseph Cambell, you will appreciate that last point. In short, I decided to buy this app at full price instead of waiting for another sale. I was not disappointed. There is a learning curve, but the time investment is worth it. It takes time to get into as well, but as you approach the 10 year mark, if your clan is close to happy with you, you will not be able to stop thinking about this... not a game so much as an experience. While it is a game with goals and scoring, it is such a good simulator and immersive story that its function as a game is secondary to its experience. To the dev team: please keep the content coming. Seeing the regular content updates was the reason why I took the chance on this. Thank you!

Very deep and well designed

Rarely do I see this level of thought go into a game. The back story on this and the lore within the game are very well researched. The decisions required of you are well crafted and difficult to choose between. Cant speak enough of this game, go get it! Ive had this on my iPhone for the past two years and still play it, this should be a no-brainier for anyone who likes deep, engrossing, and intelligent games.

Amazing

The best of its kind, really makes you feel your progressing from a small tribe to the King. A must play for fans of the genre.

Amazing

Also try Sword and Glory

Still Amazing

I thought I would redo my review. The last one I stated that I love it and you should get it. Well I want to say it again. Get this game, period. Its worth the extra couple bucks because it will draw you into a world like no other. Im not being melodramatic either, its great! I actually feel like a Village leader! The replayability is there still and its going strong. I love the fact that they updated it and added a few more issues/events. Makes you want to cry when one of the elders gets old and either dies or leaves, no other game has hit me in the heart like this one haha. Too many random events? Are you kidding me? How many random events happen to you during just one week?!? Its perfect. If you only like arcade style games and shooting people in the face though, this game is much too deep and complex then. Immersion? Yes please! Haha.

Honest game

The more I play the more I like it. I played a lot...

Satisfactory

Though the iOS version of this game has many improvements and is mechanically better than the original, the removal of saving/loading cause a forced "ironman run", making it unable to be played casually and almost impossible to win on any difficulty. I would recommend this to players that enjoy the challenge, but I personally do not.

Just-one-more-turn!

A game about making important decisions with an atmosphere of mythology and mystery. The timeless presentation and tribe-management gameplay result in that just-one-more-turn feeling.
